Day 4 April 14, 2009 Hilo

Off to the volcano we go!

A sign is worth a 1000 words :).

We are here!

Wow, a crater, inside a crater, with gasses emitting!

A different view!

Talking to PA to see if they see us on the camera ;).

Fiddle head fern!

Here is the parent fern!

Yep, we did the rim crater trail!

Live, growing orchid!

Closer!

Yes, that is where we will be soon! The bottom!

Follow the trail markers! WOW!

Yes, that is hardened lava he is standing on!

But, flowers and vegetation still grow here!

Looks like Ghostbusters!

Across the volcano bottom!

Tour guide is small compared to the lava mountain.

"The white area is warm, maybe even warm enough to toast marshmallows"

Here we are!, after the 5.0 earthquake we had, while standing there, in the bottom!

Opening to the lava tubes!

Where you can go with a flashlight!

How tall the tubes are!

What grows on the "ceiling" of a lava tube!

I see the light!

This tree has fallen over, however it did not stop it from continuing to grow, trunks all up and down the main trunk! Very interesting to see!

Can you see the people on the floor bottom?

Home away from home.

Banyan tree! Go cougars!

By Banyan tree!

Wow, by the Banyan tree, a hobbit :).

A clump of Banyan trees...can you find Lynda?

King Kamehameha's stone he was to have moved, at age 14, to become King...

God has a wonderful pruner!

Practicing their double canoe skills!

K and the King!

L can't wait to be King! (Lion King reference)

Lei options! I did purchase a book on creating lots of different types of leis!

I did make this Lei for K! He is talking to J in Utah, about packing, studying and doing well on finals!

L and lei, and dinner choices!

Faster than a speeding bullet...K's eyes ;)

Lava flowing as we cruised around the Big Island from Hilo to Kona!

Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009! in PA!
